Pricol Water Pump Leak Issue

Caterpillar

Description

A quality leak issue was discovered that impacted several water pumps produced by our new supplier. Through various testing methods, it was determined that the only way to accurately test for the leak was to run it in a test cell on an engine. Production, Engineering & Supply Chain determined that this was not feasible due to test cells being a bottle net for our production line. Since these needed rebuilt with the corrected O-ring installation, we were able to sell 320pcs of these to our Reman facility in Corinth, MS at a discounted cost to help mitigate Caterpillar financial impact of this $120,000 worth of inventory. Once the quality issue was resolved, we had a 336pc part shortage spanning seven separate part numbers which we worked with our international and domestic supplier to expedite via truck and ocean to avoid $75,000 in air shipment fees.
