Reliability Study
Purdue University
Description
In my quality course at Purdue, we conducted a reliability study of a product of our choosing. My team decided to test the reliability of a 3/8" Pittsburgh ratchet from Harbor Freight to see how long it would last. To do so we mounted the ratchet to an electric 12v motor using a deep well socket with a 3D printed nut that would connect the socket/ratchet to the D shaft of the motor. We then created a fixture that we could mount the motor and ratchet to create a controlled test. It eventually failed after 45 days of continuous operations. We then took it apart to analyze the reason for failure.
