SHW Fuel Pump Shortage

This 453-1566 fuel pump was a high-volume fuel pump used on our high priority C175 and 3500 Diesel Gas Blend (DGB) engines. Our supplier in Germany was very constrained and was unable to support Lafayette facility, Service network & Corinth Remanufacturing causing our lines to stop. Short term we were able to use a larger 453-1567 pump to run engines through paint & test until we received the correct 453-1566 pump.  Long term, I worked with upper supply chain leadership in Lafayette to get a Control Tower created for this supplier so all Caterpillar facilities could work together to share parts to between new engines production, reman & service down engines in the field. Together we were able to push our supplier to improve production over the course of a few months to fulfill our demand. I also collected data on recent shipping history to use in a business case to get part priority over other facilities from Project managers.
